In the vineyards: Latest harvests

We could call the 2022 vintage in many ways, but certainly has been”unique”. End of the season gave us a  pleasant surprise: sweet rain showers gave a nice boost to the ripening of the grape for still wines. We are delighted with it, these rains allowed us to pick the healthiest grapes.

In the last days we harvest the Febo and the Negus.

Febo: Research and Insight

The Febo, who reached its seventh harvest, still remains our iconic macerated wine.

At the core of this creation there's my will of deepening  semi-carbonic maceration and discovering the boundaries of extraction  through direct contact with the grape skins.

-

Semi-carbonic Maceration: initial fermentation occurs intracellularly (unlike the most common winemaking) due to the presence of carbon dioxide. In practice: whole grapes are sealed with carbon dioxide in a container. In this environment with so little oxygen, grapes start fermenting from the inside.

Negus: historic vineyard

On an old “Brescian pergola vineyard” located on the slope of the Cru Cudula our Negus reached its eighth harvest.

This is an historic vineyard(over 60 years) that means a lot to me,both emotionally and on the quality aspect. I Am fully committed to valuing the diversity of this vineyard, giving it so much attention, starting by maintaining its original state: there are still original chestnut poles and iron wires.

Grapes are  Barbera e Marzemino. Another case of semi-carbonic maceration winemaking process with a  long contact in the absence of oxygen with the skins that allowed us to extract all the intensity of this extraordinary vine which has its roots deepen in the calcareous soils of Gussago for many years.
