Nicola, the wine and the vineyard #1

Front page of my journal. My work, my projects and the bottles that excited me.

Nicola, the wine and the vineyard #1

In the vineyard: first treatment of the year. Great satisfaction

Being able to get to mid-May without any treatment is indeed a great satisfaction. What allows this situation is an optimal condition of ventilation, slope and altitude. It is precisely the case to repeat it: Gussago unique Terroir.

The treatment in question was done before shredding the grass (as you well know I am against the use of herbicides) using lot of Zeolite: a clay that allows you to increase the effectiveness of copper. In doing so, the amount of copper that I can use is very low: less than 1.5 kg per hectare.

In the cellar: the Tonneaux have arrived!

The tonneaux have arrived this month! I've been waiting for them for a long time and now the cellar is almost full. At the moment I have 110 in the cellar: it will be difficult to store more! For my work and my experiments, tonneaux are essential.

The tonneaux come from France with very light toasting and I will certainly use them for the "vin de reserve". I'm thinking about a more intense passage even of the "vin clair". However, the concept remains that of using a non-invasive wood that enhances the character of my limestone hill.

Wild vigneron: to Ferdy for a collaborative project.

I've always been of the opinion that dialogue and open-mindedness between producers and drinkers is the foundation of a healthy use of wine. It's important to explore and drink together, I've said it many times.

Nicolò wanted to bring together the main producers of artisan wine of  the Lombardia region in a lunch: from Gussago to Valtellina, passing through the Oltrepò. The Wild Vigneron project doesn't stop at a day of dialogue, which is already a great goal anyway, but wants to go further.

The idea is to form a group in the future: to carry forward common choices even with different ideas and starting points in order to be able to say aloud that artisanal wine can give satisfaction to those who produce it and to those who drink it. Drink craft!

By the way, on June 14th I'm back in Lenna for some blind tasting.
