Nicola, the wine and the vineyard #36

Thirty-sixth page of my journal. I'll tell you about our June: in the vineyard the bunches are closing and starting to ripen, while we are selecting the special bottles from the Caveau for July 28th at Enoteca Naturale. At the bottom of this email the section: "What to drink". Every month, I tell you which bottle I would open myself!

IN THE VINEYARD: THE CLOSING OF THE BUNCH

We are in the post-flowering phase, when the bunch is growing and is almost about to close. It is a crucial moment, the tight bunch marks the beginning of veraison, that is, ripening. On white grapes, veraison will be less evident, with golden reflections and soft berries replacing the green. For Pinot Noir, however, the change in color will be much more evident.

This year it has been a challenge to get to this point with such healthy grapes. We had to work with targeted treatments and particular attention to the greenery, reducing the vegetation to maintain the phytosanitary balance. Despite the difficulties, we are in a wonderful situation: the vintage promises well and, if everything continues like this, we expect a high quality harvest.

IN THE CELLAR: WE WAIT FOR JULY 28TH

In the cellar we await the harvest, but in the meantime we select from the Caveau the rarities to drink together on July 28th in the Milanese stage of our Tour. See you at Enoteca Naturale to share the value of time through our historic bottles.

WHAT TO DRINK

Right now, I would open:

🍾 CC CHARDONNAY BOTTLING '22

Why? Here...
With the summer heat it is the perfect choice. Two years after bottling have given it a notable structure, whilst maintaining a level of freshness that makes it perfect for the hottest days.
