Nicola, the wine and the vineyard #48

Forthy-eighth page of my journal. Here’s a little recap of our June: much-needed rain, thriving plants, and a season that's finally finding its balance again. Tickets for MEGAFRIENDS25 are now online, and this year, we've got some exciting new surprises in store! Scroll to the bottom of this email for the “What to Drink” section, every month, I’ll tell you which bottle I’d open!

Nicola, the wine and the vineyard #48

In the vineyard: A NICE COOL DOWN

These past few days blessed us with some much-needed rain, about 50–60 millimeters, no damage, no hail, just good, clean water.

The younger vines ,from our new plantings and crus, were starting to feel the heat. After weeks of intense sun, this rainfall came just in time to ease the stress and restore their water balance. Even the older vines, the ones busy ripening their clusters, welcomed the refresh.

And finally, temperatures dropped below 30°C, after June’s crazy highs. You can feel the difference, in the vineyard and out!

The season is getting back on track: less extreme, more balanced. If the weather keeps playing nice over the next few months, we might just be looking at a truly great vintage.

IN the cellar: MEGAFRIENDS25

In the cellar, we’re in that classic calm-before-the-harvest phase. If the weather stays on our side, we’re expecting to kick things off around the end of August. Right now, all eyes are on the vineyard, so we’re ready and fired up when harvest time comes.

In the meantime, we’re cooking up the fourth edition of

What to drink:

Right now, I would open:

🍾 MOLENER ROSÈ - disgorgement march 2021

Why this one? Here’s why...
It’s a bottle with a wide evolutionary range, still holding tight to its freshness and acidity.
The fruit has shifted from crisp red to more candied and slightly oxidative notes, but always balanced.
It’s a wine with plenty of years ahead, but right now it’s in a seriously delicious phase.
